Knitted Nativity Set

Would you like to see my knitted nativity set? I managed to get it finished just in time for Christmas last year. The husband made the setting for me. A stable in a cave. It even has a thatched roof, straw and tiny lights.

Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus.

The shepherds with some of their sheep.

The wise men with their knitted gifts. They're looking a bit tired after their long journey.

Lots of people have made this nativity set or at least parts of it. I used Jean Greenhowe's pattern for all the figures. Most of them are made using odds and ends of yarn, including some Rowan pure wool. I'd love to make a donkey to add to the collection but it won't be this year.

Hope you are enjoying the last few days before Christmas. Of course, not everyone celebrates Christmas but I'm sure those who don't won't mind those who do just enjoying it. Must go and have a (bought!) mince pie.

  2. Your Knitivaty is wonderful!!! I love that your husband made the stable as well, that makes the whole thing even better. You won't believe this, tomorrow, my post has a Knitivaty, using the same pattern I think as the figures look very similar - not made by me I should add! I think that this is a wonderful representation of the season and I am sure that it took a lot of work to complete. I take my hat off to you! Happy Christmas! xx

  3. Adorable! Have you noticed how children are often fascinated by Nativity displays. Many homes have Nativity scenes which are made of delicate materials and the children (my children anyway) were always drawn to them and when they were little they wanted to touch the figures and play with them. The beauty of yours is that children can play with the figures without fear of breakages and have the joy of the Christmas story in a hands-on way. How long did it take you to make all of those? How lovely that your hubby helped with the display as well. Have a lovely Christmas xx

    1. I'm not sure how long it took to make all the figures as I did a bit at a time. The knitting part isn't really what takes the time - sewing up all the wee tiny parts is time consuming and embroidering the faces is scary!

    2. I know what you mean about the sewing and embroidery. That's what I found with my Fab Four Amigurumi project the story of which still hasn't been completed on the blog. It's an ongoing saga..

What a project, you must be so happy every time you look at it.
