Wet and Windy

We've been having some remarkably clement weather here recently, bearing in mind that we are now into November. Today, however, is far from clement. The wind is howling and the rain is lashing against the windows. I'm so glad I don't have to go out in it.

When the weather was nice I had a walk round the garden to take some pictures for you. Here they are and I hope you enjoy them as much as I did remembering how lovely it was such a short time ago.

Crab Apple

Copper beech
There is still plenty of colour in the garden. Some from late flowers ...

... and some from the magnificent display of berries this year.

I brought some of the hop vine into the kitchen.

It looks a bit random up there!

Before leaving the garden there's one more thing to show you. A special visitor!

This is Brandy the tinsel hedgehog. He has since been joined by four small gold tinsel hedgehogs but they are very camera shy so far.

Bye bye for now. Take care of yourselves wherever you are. Thank you very, very much for your truly gracious comments on my mini makes, especially the heather bowl. You are all very kind. Please go ahead and leave more comments as I love reading them.

  1. Hi Gillian, brilliant post, I was admiring your garden and the fabulous views beyond that are visible now the leaves have dropped and then you produce Brandy- ridiculously cute!, I love him-is that really tinsel? How clever is that.
Really clever, he would be snug in my hedgehog house-nah on the sofa!.

    1. The hedgehog is knit with tinsel yarn by King Cole. It is very similar to real tinsel but softer.

  2. The birds will love the lots and lots of berries in wintertime. They like the grapes here. And is it your sheep behind the copper beech? I also, like little Brandy, It's nose and hands are cute.
Have a good time, hopefully with a little sunshine, Birgit

  3. Hi Gillian! Lovely post, what wonderful dashes of colour still in your garden, especially all those berries! Amazing!
    Brandy is absolutely adorable!!! <3
I just got back by bus from my lessons in Antwerp and was admiring the beautiful full moon we got tonight! Mind, it has also turned pretty cold here, almost around freezing! (It was about 5 degrees when I left at 17.00)
Ideal weather for wearing all my winter woollens to keep me warm!
    Have a nice weekend!

  4. Hi Gillian, lovely autumnal post. The Copper Beach is beautiful. It is not windy here just really cold, quite a sharp adjustment in the weather. I like Brandy my dad's dog would go wild if he saw it, he is always foraging in my dad's garden at night hoping to find them. He did get near one once and got a prick on the nose ! They are such cute little creatures reminds me of Mrs Tiggy Winkle from Beatrix Potter! Sally x

  6. Awww, how cute is Brandy the hedgehog. He really does look prickly, it's amazing how the effect can be obtained by using the right yarn. There seems to be lots of berries this year, it's supposed to mean that we've got a harsh winter to come, though I seriously hope not.

  10. Hi Gillian - Things still look full of life in the north of Ireland. i would have to say that here, in upstate NY, things are looking a bit dreary - gray skies, bits of drizzle - but I don't mind. It's a good excuse to stay in and crochet and watch old movies. I love the little visitor to your garden, very sweet.

  11. I tried to make a hedgehog once and failed miserably. I love the kind of day when rain whips at your windows and the sun does not shine.
    Hugs,
