Hexagon Blanket

This project was started some time last year and was left aside on several occasions to work on other things. The hexagons are a simple pattern as I wanted the way they are joined to be the important part of the blanket. While we were away recently on our cruise (see here, here, here and here) I made 85 of the hexagons during our car travelling time.

So here are all the finished hexagons ready to be joined. I finished making the last of them shortly after we got home from holiday.

Then I started joining them using a continuous flat join. This is the first time I've tried this method of joining and I think it works very well.

Can you see what's happening? The hexagons are starting to form flowers.

The more hexagons are joined to the blanket the more you can see the flowers appearing.

This is the blanket about two thirds of the way through. As I crocheted the neon orange and bright pink hexagons, I couldn't help thinking what was in my head when I bought the yarn! But now that I see it worked in with the other colours I actually like it.

Well I now only have one more row of turquoise hexagons to join. It will then need some sort of edging - not sure what yet - the ends sewn in and a bit of a block. When it's all finished I'll let you see it. By the way, what looks like black hexagons in the photo is actually very deep purple.

Hopefully it won't be too long now until the blanket is finished. I'm at that stage where lots of my projects are almost, but not quite, finished. And I've started some more; to make sure I don't ever reach the stage where one is finsihed and I don't have something else to carry on working on!

All the best for now. Thanks for your lovely comments. Please feel free to let me know what you think about my garden, crochet projects or whatever.

    1. I've just finished a poncho where I also used this joining method. It was very good - I'll be using it a lot in future. I'll have to do a post about my poncho - it was so quick to make that it seemed to be finished before I'd barely started.

    1. I got the idea from a patchwork quilt and thought I'd like to try and crochet it.

  5. What a great idea! I've got some neon orange yarn as well - who knows why! - but a touch of it here and there often seems to lift the pattern. Well done x Jane
