Lavender and Plums

A few weeks ago I decided it was time for the annual refresh of the lavender in my flowerstone. If you look back here you can see last year's.

Lavender is one of my favourite flowers, well a herb really, so we have lots of it in the garden.

It's great for attracting bees and sometimes it seems like the whole lavender bed is buzzing.

I just fill the holes in the flowerstone with the lavender stems.

Several stems in the bigger holes so there's plenty.

And here it is sitting on the kitchen windowsill.

We have a few others pieces from this Blue Clematis range of Uig pottery; three jugs, a garlic pot, a jam pot and a large oven dish. Looks like some of these are discontinued.

Summer isn't officially over just yet but I'm so glad that the Autumn is very nearly here. I'm relieved to just stop waiting for the good weather to come and enjoy the beauty that comes with Autumn. Last year we had a very plentiful plum harvest that you can read about herehere and here. This year's harvest has already been picked and eaten; all three plums! Actually there's a fourth plum but it's too high to pick so it's still on the tree.

I'm sorry I haven't had much time to read all your blogs and leave comments. Hopefully I'll soon get there. Thanks for the comments you leave on my posts. As always, I really enjoy reading them.

  1. Lavender is a favourite of mine too! Love the vase you have for holding it in!

  2. Lavender is so hardy and useful. My lavender is also buzzing with bees. It lives along the fence near a washing line but it needs a pruning asap so that I have room to hang my washing again! I hope the lavender scents waft over the fresh washing. I love your flower stone. What a useful type of vase, especially for long skinny stems like lavender, native grasses etc.

  9. Hi Gillian,
I'm also a great fan of lavender, I got some plants on the balcony. It's great for attracting bees. I have some pure lavender oil, it is great for healing wounds (to avoid scarring) and also helps with relaxation and sleep.

  11. That looks so pretty. I didn't get one plum on my tree this year, but I took the tree out of the container it was growing in and planted it in the ground so I'm hoping it's happier there.

  15. hello! Lavender is also one of my favorite flowers and I have some in my garden, but they are usually in full bloom in June. I usually make lavender sticks out of them so that I can enjoy all year long.

  17. I love the scent of lavender drifting on the breeze, we have a small hedge which has done well this year. The oil is very good for burns and I use it instead of antiseptic. We also have no plums on a usually bountiful tree. Hx

  18. Your lavender bushes are wonderful!! I like lavender too but I don't have a garden. I had a pot plant on the balcony last year but it was shrimpy, maybe lavender is better for "living free" ;-). Wishing you a wonderful weekend! Nata xxx

  20. Your lavender is such a picture. It's one of my absolute favourite plants, and I should grow some more. I know exactly what you mean about autumn and how it's a relief to stop waiting for the good weather. In autumn, I embrace all weathers quite happily without any sense of disappointment. x

  21. Lovely photographs, Gillian. I love lavender. We don't have any plum trees now, but we do have an apple tree, which we either pruned at the wrong time or the frost caught it this year as, like you with your plums, we only had about 4 apples.

  22. I love lavender too. It's such a useful herb and smell wonderful. I have a hard time growing it here. Some of mine didn't survive the very cold winter last year. Your garden is just beautiful. ♥
